MUSCAT: Port of Salalah has reported impressive figures for the first half of 2024, with the handling of approximately 1.7 million standard containers and 11.6 million tonnes of general cargo. This robust performance has resulted in a net profit of RO 1.570 million, reflecting the port's growing efficiency and operational success. To support its expanding capabilities, the port has recently added 10 new cranes to its fleet, raising the total number of cranes to 27.

Eng Mohammed al Mashani, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Salalah Port, provided insights into the port's current and future strategies. According to Al-Mashani, the port is already linked with many of the world's largest shipping lines and is actively working to attract additional global shipping partners. This initiative aims to enhance the port's connectivity and solidify its position in the international shipping industry.

One of the key projects underway at Salalah Port is the expansion of its container terminal. The port is set to increase its capacity to 6 million standard containers annually by the first quarter of 2025. This significant expansion is part of the port's broader strategy to accommodate growing trade volumes and strengthen its role as a critical logistics hub in the region.

Al Mashani emphasized the strategic geographic location of Salalah Port, which serves as a crucial link for re-exporting goods between Europe, Asia, and Africa. The port's location not only facilitates global trade but also enhances its appeal to international businesses and investors. The port’s high operational efficiency and its ability to connect major global markets contribute to increased business confidence locally and make Salalah an attractive destination for foreign investment.

The port's role extends beyond its immediate operational successes. It plays a vital part in bolstering the local economy of Dhofar Governorate by providing exceptional connectivity for both importers and exporters. This enhanced connectivity supports investment in key areas such as Raysut Industrial City, the Salalah Free Zone, and the Al Mazunah Free Zone. Salalah Port’s continued growth and strategic initiatives are expected to further boost the region's economic development and global trade engagement.
