BARKA: ‘Sapa’, owned by Hijen Al Bashayer, snatched the dagger on the opening day of the general camel race in Barka on Tuesday. ‘Awon', owned by Naseer al Darei, ‘Bashayer’, owned by Saleh al Jenaibi and ‘Showahean', owned by Waleed al Rushidi, were purchased by Royal Camel Corps (RCC).
The general race competitions will continue till January 4 at Al Fulaij Race field in Barka, supported by the Royal Court Affairs represented by Royal Camel Corps (RCC) and organised by Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF).
As many as 75 races will be held over three days and a number of camels will qualify to the final race (HM cups), which will be held in March to conclude camel racing season 2023-24.
The first day witnessed 25 races dedicated to ‘Hagayeg’ category, two years old over a distance of 4 km, the top two winners qualified to HM Cup Festival from the first 11 races. The RCC purchased three camels that achieved the best record in the category.
‘Sapa’ won the race title, owned by Hijen Al Bashayer, coached by Khalifa al Wahibi. In the second race, ‘Shawaheen’ came first, owned by Waleed al Rashidi. The third race was won by ‘Al Hazba’, owned by Said al Jadaili. The fourth race was won by ‘Marmoqah’, owned by Saud al Jabri, the fifth race was won by ‘Shawaheen’, owned by Saif al Omari. ‘Al Bashayer’, owned by Mahmoud al Junaibi, won the sixth race.
In the seventh race, ‘Qyadah’, owned by Hamad al Wahibi, bagged the top place, ‘Al Hada’, owned by Hamad al Bartmani, won the eighth race, ‘Harba’, owned by Hamad al Omari, came first in the ninth race and the tenth race award was snatched by ‘Razan’, owned by Ahmed al Darei.
In the 11th race, ‘Legend’, owned by Masoud al Saadi, was the winner, ‘Mawari’, owned by Hamad al Maliki, came top in the 12th race, ‘Fayda’, owned by Abdullah al Jahafi claimed the 13th race honours, the 14th race was won by ‘Ather’, owned by Nasser al Dohani, the 15th race prize was snatched by ‘Al Nashmiya’, owned by Salem al Rashidi, the 16th race was won by ‘Elag’, owned by Ahmed al Mughairi and the 17th race top spot was claimed by ‘Khareamah’, owned by Mubarak al Jadaili.
‘Kaifan’, owned by Mubarak al Jadaili won the 18th race, ‘Skillful’, owned by Ali al Ghailani came top in the 19th race, ‘Shaheen’, owned by Abdullah al Rashidi, finished first in the 20th race, ‘Hamalul’, owned by Mohammed al Omari, took the top spot in the 21st race, 'Hajam’, owned by Ahmed al Ghufaili, came first in 22nd race, ‘Hamalul’, owned by Shihab al Mubihisi, claimed the 23rd race honours, ‘Al Hanish’, owned by Hamid al Jahafi, bagged the 24th race prize, and ‘Adham’, owned by Nasser al Harthy, won the 25th and concluding race.
Abdullah bin Amer al Hajri, Assistant Director-General of RCC, said, “We have completed the first day’s competitions with great participation and the number of participating camels exceeded a thousand."
