The Oman School Sports Association is all set to launch the second School Beach Games 2023 tournament, on the sandy courts at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex in Salalah from August 13 to 17.
As many as 102 students representing 11 educational directorates will compete in two competitions, beach handball for those born in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Also beach volleyball for male students born in 2006 and 2007.
The tournament draw will be on Saturday. The teams will be divided into two groups, the first and second placed teams will qualify for the semifinals. Winners will advance to the final while the two losers will play to determine the third and fourth places.
On August 13 morning, the championship matches will start, where the group league matches will be held from August 13 to 15. The semifinals will be on August 15, while the final will be played on August 17 morning time.
The championship aims to spread educational values and sports culture among school students and spread awareness on the importance of sports and physical activity. It also shares the importance of investing students' free time in some useful sports activities. The main focus will be to discover and develop talented players in beach games to join the national team.
On the sidelines of the tournament, many accompanying activities such as tourist visits, where the participants will visit the areas of Al Mughsail beach and Atin mountain. There will be a football festival for children and family in the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex.
The tournament is supported by OQ Group and Oman Natural Gas Company, where the OQ Group will present number of events like a life-saving and cardiopulmonary resuscitation programme on August 13 and a lecture on emergency management in weather conditions will be held in Dhofar University on August 15.
Al Dakhiliyah Educational team had won the handball title in the last edition in 2022, while the Al Batinah North Educational team won the volleyball title.
