Individuals with clean driving track record can get lifetime driving licence. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Monday mooted the idea of lifetime driving licence with certain conditions.
The applicant for lifetime driving licence should be an Omani who had never worked as a vehicle driver. He should have a driving licence at least for 15 years and has to be free of any disability-related issues.
The applicant’s traffic report has to be free of any first-category traffic violations over the past three years at the time of application, and he should not combine the permanent private licence with any other driving licence of other categories.
The fee for getting a lifetime driving licence is RO 100.
The Royal Oman Police, represented by the General Traffic Department, announced the move on social networking sites on Monday.
Renewal of a driving licence in the Sultanate of Oman is one of the necessary things for those who drive vehicles.
Resolution No 32/2018 specified that the validity of a vehicle licence shall be one year from the date of registration or renewal, and it may be for a period of two years for government vehicles, vehicles of diplomatic and consular bodies and organisations accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, unless it is decided to inspect them annually in accordance with the provision of Article 39.
In order to obtain a permanent driver’s licence for life, it is necessary to adhere to the conditions set by the General Traffic Department.
In the event of violations by the permanent driving licence holder, there is provision to withdraw the special light driving licence if any of the aforementioned controls are found to be absent.
It is necessary to recognise and adhere to legal controls related to traffic. It is necessary to know that the basic principle in driving a vehicle of any kind is that it is a kind of contract between the authority responsible for granting this licence, which is the General Traffic Department, and the individual (the licence applicant) for the purpose of using the vehicle on the public road, which is a public benefit provided by the state to serve members of the society.
