Muscat: An agreement was signed between the Medical Research Center at Sultan Qaboos University and Abbott Laboratories Company to conduct a research study at the level of the Arabian Gulf on the relationship of triglycerides in the blood with cardiovascular disease.
The agreement was signed by the university, Dr Amer al Hinai, Vice President for Post Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and by Abbott Laboratories, Dr Mazen Bachir, General Manager for the Gulf and Emerging Markets and Dr Nadine Bou Aoun, Medical Affairs Director for the Gulf and Emerging Markets.
The study will be held in five Gulf countries (Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar).
The study aims to collect and analyze clinical data on the association of high triglycerides in the blood with the risk of cardiovascular disease and the most important means of treatment and continuous follow-up.
The research team will be led by Dr Khalid al Rasadi, Director of the Medical Research Center at Sultan Qaboos University.
Dr Al Rasadi explained that this study comes as a continuation of the previous Gulf population studies, in order to shed light on the most important risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, which is considered as the most prevalent and the main cause of mortality in the Arabian Gulf region.
