Chaand Raat: Women and children gear up for Eid

 
With live mehndi, colourful bangles, antique to modern jewellery besides lots of entertainment and fun and frolic events, the Chaand Raat will take the centre stage of the Eid preparations at the at the Pakistan School Muscat hall on Friday evening.

Organised by the Pakistan Social Activities exclusively for women and children, the Chaand Raat is an annual event, part of the celebrations of the Pakistani community residing in Oman that encourages all families from the community and beyond to gather at a place and do final rounds of shopping besides discussing their Eid preparations.

Noreen Yaqub, wife of Imran Ali Chaudhry, Ambassador of Pakistan to the Sultanate of Oman will be the Chief Guest.

While men will stroll through the small, make-shift shops outside the hall, women and children will be busy picking their favourite ornaments, clothes and the like while girls would get their hands painted with henna. A live halwa puri and chanay counter that serves everything hot will add flavour to the celebrations.

“This glittering event held on the eve of Eid invokes colourful memories of the Eid etched in the minds when we were children,” says Azra Aleem, event organiser and a social worker and Correspondent for Urdu Pukar online journal.

She said the event is supported by many prominent personalities, adding that it is an open invitation and all ladies and girls from all communities residing in Oman are welcome to the event which will begin at 9 pm and will last till 11.30 pm.

“It’s” simply hard to explain the feeling of Chaand Raat. For some it’s a feeling of satisfaction after farewell to Ramadhan, for others it’s the joy of good food and family gathering. Either way, it’s warm, happy occasion with great excitement like you know something good is coming and you just can’t wait for it,” Naila, another participant of the event sad.

Chaand Raat is living upto the routine of many youngsters as well as adults who are used to spend their Ramadhan waking up till suhour and sleeping all day long. This night is just another addition to the lifestyle that one is used to, relishing this routine at its fullest.

Special attractions of the event are free bangalis, jewellery and henna for ladies and girls along with many exciting competitions, games and live cooking of traditional Pakistani cusine at the venue.

For kids, there will be free cotton candy, ice cream, french fries and hot dog corners to keep them busy.
