Fees for some signboards reduced

Muscat Municipality has announced that applicants requested for the issuance of commercial signboard licences received after April 4, 2023 will be directed to submit the application through Invest Easy platform.

However, all applications received before April 4 will be completed at Muscat Municipality itself, as was the previous practice.

In a note to the media, it is said that this initiative is based on the circular issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) on the transfer of the commercial signboard issuance from the municipalities to Invest Easy.

Speaking to the Observer, a highly placed official from the municipality said that this new decision is in implementation of government directives to apply the government service pricing guide.

'This decision of issuance of commercial signboard licences from the municipalities to the Invest Easy portal in reference to the statement of the Council of Ministers issued on November 17, 2022 on the results of the second phase of the fees reviewing project for public services,' he said.

He further emphasised that the licences for the side commercial signboards, commercial name signboard on building rooftop, and for advertising signs are still issued by Muscat Municipality, through the e-services portal of the municipality.

Additionally, the service fee for issuing a licence for the side commercial signboard and for a licence for a commercial name signboard on building rooftops have been reduced to RO15 for each service, paid once and without annual renewal, provided that it complies with the technical requirements currently in force in Muscat Municipality.
