Oman to send 130-strong team for GCC Games in Kuwait

MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) on Monday will unveil the details of the Sultanate of Oman's participation in the third GCC Games to be held in Kuwait from May 13 to 31.

The OCC will hold a meeting at the Oman Olympic Academy with members of Oman delegation participating in the tournament, in the presence of Taha bin Suleiman al Kishry, OOC Secretary-General, and the managers of the participating sports teams.

The meeting also highlights the procedures that will be followed in Kuwait, the technical details of the competitions, their schedule and places of residence, the requirements for the games before travelling to Kuwait, procedures upon arrival and during the stay.

In the Games, strict health protocol will be followed to prevent Covid-19.

The OOC has completed all procedures related to participation, as Oman will participate with a delegation of more than 130 participants representing 10 sports, namely shooting, athletics for men, athletics for women, futsal, padel, electronic games, volleyball, swimming, basketball (3x3) for women, and karate.

The official delegation of Oman includes Khalid bin Muhammad al Zubair, OOC Chairman and head of the delegation, Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, OOC Secretary-General, Dr Mansoor al Toqi, board member, Ali al Busafi, Chef de Mission, Bader Awlad Thani, Chef de Mission assistant, Saeed bin Ali al Hosani, administrator, Asaad bin Mubarak al Hasani, representing the Omani Athletes Committee, Majid bin Mohammed al Wardi, a physiotherapist, Khalil bin Khalfan al Busaidi, a physiotherapist, and the media personnel include Fahd bin Salim al Zuhaimi, Khalid bin Mohammed al Jaldani and Faisal bin Abdul Hamid al Balushi.

OMAN CAMPAIGN

Oman national women’s athletics team competitions will start on May 13, with the list of three players and two coaches. Oman athletics team competitions for men will start on May 16 to May 18 at Ahmed Al Rashdan Track and Field. The list includes 13 players, and 9 technical and administrative staff.

As for futsal (men), the list includes 14 players and 6 technical and administrative staff. The competitions will start on May 14 and continue until May 22 at Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Sabah Hall. The Oman shooting team includes 14 players and 10 technical and administrative staff, in addition to two referees. The competitions will start from May 15-19 at the Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Olympic Shooting Ranges Complex.

Oman swimming team includes 6 athletes, 4 technical and administrative staff, and one referee. The competitions will be held at the Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammed Aquarium Complex during the period from May 17-20.

For Oman team for electronic games, the competitions will start on May 19 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and the delegation list includes 3 players and 2 technical and administrative staff.

The volleyball competitions will be held at the Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Sabah Complex from May 20-26, and the Oman team includes 12 players, 5 technical and administrative staff, and one referee.

The padel national team includes 8 players and 3 technical and administrative staff, and the competitions will be held from May 23-28 at Yarmouk Sports Club.

Oman women's basketball team includes 4 players, 2 technical and administrative staff, and one referee. The competitions will be held during the period from May 28-29 at the Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Sabah Complex.

Karate competitions will be held in the Al Nasr Sports Club hall from May 29-31. The Oman team includes 6 players, 3 technical and administrative staff, and one referee.
