Women summit highlights role of parliamentarians

ABU DHABI: The second day of the Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament  at Abu Dhabi, discussed its theme, ‘United for shaping the future’ organized by the Federal National Council of the UAE and the Inter Parliamentary Union on Tuesday. Dr Suad bint Mohammed Al Lawati, State Council, Vice-Chairperson, headed the State Council delegation at the Summit, which included.Naashiah Al Kharousi and Rahma Al Mashrafi with nearly 50 other women parliamentarian Speakers at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi.


The Summit focused on the role that women speakers can play in uniting parliamentarians around national and political interests to deliver sustainable prosperity and security in a rapidly changing world for present and future generations. Following the keynote addresses, the Session 5  commenced viewing presentations on ‘governing tolerance’ and debate on management of tolerance, influencing attitudes and values through legislation and government action, role of parliament in contributing to eradicating the root causes of intolerance, which leads to violence, discrimination and terrorism.


Two parallel panel sessions included a closed roundtable discussion for women speakers of parliament.  The second session was open to participation and discussed youth perspectives. Suad Al  Lawati stressed the importance of a specialist in the field of vocational training for appropriate professionals to enhance their abilities and their willingness and their orientation.
