Siham al Saidi -

Muscat, July 8 -

The Sultanate recently witnessed several mass weddings across governorates, most of which were organised by social groups with support from private institutions.

Besides reflecting the solidarity and interdependence in Omani society, mass weddings also bring down the cost of marriages. Dancing and singing were part of most of the weddings.

The wilayat of Al Khabourah saw 99 weddings, followed by Suwaiq (90), Ibri (76), Saham (69), Liwa (50), Izki (47), Suhar (41), Shinas (20,) Al Buraimi (44), Jaalan Bu Ali (38), Manah (30), Bahla (25), Barket Almooz (28) and Nizwa (22).

A mass wedding was held in the Wilayat of Saham under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saeed al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development. The event, which saw 69 couples entering wedlock, was the fifth mass wedding organised in the wilayat. This time, it was held with support from Badi Investment Holding. Shaikh Ali Ibn Mansour al Busaidi, the Wali of Saham, and a number of officials graced the occasion. The organising committee had been preparing and coordinating for the last four months for the fifth mass wedding. A total of 170 volunteers were part of different groups in the committee, which included the main group, reception group, hospitality group, coordination group and media group.

The celebration area was provided with air-conditioning, which was very essential because of high temperatures at this time of year.

Rich cultural programmes were presented by the people of Saham who showcased the art of Razha, Shalla, Ayyala.
