Like all other traditions, Oman is also known for its delectable dishes prepared in a traditional manner. Mishkak is one such dish prepared during the Eid and very popular.

Mishkak consists of marinated meat skewered and grilled until it becomes tender.

According to some tourists and foreigners, Mishkak is a traditional food served mostly on the second or third day.

What many don’t realise is special sauces are served along with Mishkak for enhancing its taste.

While some people prepare sauce from wet cactus and add it to the cooked Mishkak, in several places across Oman, especially in the mountains, people would never eat it without a dab of honey.

They love that lingering taste of sweetness of the honey and the salty Mishkak in the mouth.

Some people prefer to have it with yoghurt and some with bread or rice. Many ‘swear’ they would never eat Mishkak without some accompaniment.
