MUSCAT: Rain of varying amounts continued to lash a number of wilayats on Sunday causing many wadis to overflow and reducing temperatures.

A number of wilayats on Sunday experienced varying amounts of rain accompanied by active wind and hail causing wadis to overflow and reducing temperatures.

Moderate to heavy rains were reported in the wilayats of Mahdha, Yanqul and Ibri causing some wadis to overflow and raising the water level.

Rainfall continued in the Wilayat of Al Hamra which experienced moderate to heavy rains mostly centred on mountain tops.

The new Al Wariyah Dam in the Niyabat of Samad Al Shan has stored huge amounts of rainwater for the first time since its construction as a result of heavy rains over the northern mountainous areas.

The Directorate-General of Meteorology at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation predicts continuation of local cloud formation in the afternoon brining isolated rain and occasionally thundershowers over Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent wilayats in the afternoon.

The weather will be cloudy on the coastal strip of Dhofar Governorate with chances of sporadic drizzle and late night to early morning low-level clouds and foggy conditions on most of the coastal areas.
