The faithful from Oman are set to celebrate the Day of Arafah on Thursday, the most important of Haj pilgrimage, which falls on the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah of the Islamic lunar calendar, as more than two million Muslims from around the world began the Haj pilgrimage at Islam’s holiest sites on Wednesday.

The Day of Arafah marks the second day of the Haj and falls on the eve of Eid al Adha.

It is hailed as the most opportune day in the year for Muslims to get closer to the Almighty by praying for blessings and seeking forgiveness.

The Omani Haj Mission has been working hard to help pilgrims perform pilgrimage in the holy land safely and smoothly.

Muhammed al Kharousi, a representative of the Oman Haj Mission, said: “Pilgrims prefer to stay overnight in Mina on Wednesday to prepare themselves for the following day — the Day of Arafah. At dawn, pilgrims will make their way to the Mountain Arafat and spend the entire day from sunrise to sunset. They rest for the night in Muzdalifah in preparation for the next day. In the morning, they return from Muzdalifah to Mina to perform the last rites of the Haj.”

“The mission has been providing the pilgrims with all essential services and handle all queries related to the Haj,’’ Al Kharousi stated.
