Two arrested for kidnapping expats

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Jan. 21 - Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested two people on charges of kidnapping two Asian expatriates and demanding a ransom for their release. They claimed to be the police officers during execution of the crime. The Nizwa police station received a communication from the son of one of the victims that his father and his colleague have been kidnapped with the kidnappers requesting a ransom for their release. The combined efforts of the investigations team and various investigation agencies helped determine the whereabouts of the kidnappers in Muscat, which led to their arrest. The source said that during the investigation it was clear that the accused had a criminal background and had committed a similar crime earlier for money.


Attempt to smuggle drugs foiled


Meanwhile, Customs personnel at the Port of Sohar and the Directorate for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances at North Al Batinah Police Command foiled an attempt to smuggle a haul of 2.8 million Captagon pills. Investigators suspected presence of a bid to smuggle a huge amount of drugs through the port. Upon searching the containers, police found the drugs carefully hidden inside leather tanning machines.
