Traffic expo for families, kids in Nizwa concludes

By Amal Al Riyami — NIZWA: Feb. 21 - A traffic exhibition for family and children, organised by Traffic Safety Committee in the Royal Court Affairs, has concluded. Many local community organisations from Al Dakhiliyah took part in the three-day exhibition. It targeted children from schools and other educational institutions and various sections of society. The opening of the expo was presided over by Shaikh Hamad bin Salim bin Saif al Aghbari, Wali of Nizwa, in the presence of a number of honourees, excellencies and Engineer Abdullah bin Said al Rawahi, General Manager Transportation and Chairman of Traffic Safety Committee in the Royal Court Affairs. The patron of the ceremony opened the exhibition and toured it.


It saw participation from Traffic Safety Committee in the Royal Court Affairs, Civil Defence, ambulance and traffic management in Al Dakhiliyah, Nizwa Bikers team, Omani Women’s Association in Nizwa, Nizwa University and Traffic Safety Committee in Nizwa and Adam. The Second Forum was conducted by Traffic Safety Committee in the Royal Court Affairs. The first one was held in Bidiyah. Shaikh Hamad bin Salim bin Saif al Aghbari said: “The forum is an opportunity to educate the community in order to reduce traffic accidents. I hope such meetings have a positive impact.”


Saud bin Mohammed bin Saif al Harrasi, in his speech, said: “The issue of traffic accidents requires a solution. The traffic safety committees have an important role of creating awareness and changing the behaviour of road users.” “We appreciate the role played by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) in creating traffic awareness, which has resulted in a dip in the number of accidents, deaths and injuries to below 50 per cent in the last four years,” he said. According to Said bin Ali al Harthy, General Director Assistant of Human Resources and Vice-Chairman of the Committee, the Traffic Safety Committee in Royal Court Affairs was established in 2014. It won the first place for traffic safety last year.
