Tourism sector steering committee reviews initiatives, challenges

MUSCAT: The Tourism Sector Steering Committee held a meeting at the Ministry of Tourism on Sunday under the chairmanship of Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism. The meeting, which followed outcomes of the initiatives for enhancing the economic diversification sectors, discussed some outputs and recommendations of the fourth meeting of the committee, such as following up the visas issued by Royal Oman Police (ROP) for visitors from China, Russia and Iran, and the e-visa scheme, in cooperation with the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), and the challenges facing some of the initiatives made to accelerate its implementation.


The meeting also discussed the initiative related to developing nature, challenge and adventure activities. The activities manual has been presented at the meeting to get its final approval. The team in-charge of this manual is expected to visit New Zealand to review their experience in this field. The meeting discussed the licenses related to building permits in a bid to standardise laws and regulations related to construction and engineering consultancy for tourism projects to reach 80,000 room for tourists by 2040. — ONA
