NEW YORK: The Sultanate’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) emphasised the Sultanate’s leading role in traffic safety, which resulted in the inclusion of the traffic safety item permanently on the agenda of the UN General Assembly in 2003.
Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Sultanate’s Permanent Representative to the UN said during his participation in the Role of Traffic Safety in Sustainable Development in New York that the Sultanate’s Government is exerting continuous efforts to reduce traffic accidents resulting to many tragedies.
He highlighted the modern roads network, which is in line with the international standards implemented by the Ministry of
Transport and Communications, as well as the efforts of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to raise awareness among individuals of the society about traffic safety.
He also underlined the positive results achieved after efforts made, in cooperation with the private sector and civil society that led to a decrease in the number of deaths and injuries. — ONA
