Public celebrations continued for the second day on Wednesday as the Suhar citizens mark the blessed Eid al Fitr and the visit of His Majesty to Suhar. A marine festival was organised at the Al Afifa beach amidst a large crowd of people who gathered from the governorates of North and South Al Batinah. Participants staged traditional marine arts expressing their happiness over His Majesty’s arrival in Suhar and renewing the pledge of allegiance and loyalty to the leader of the nation. They prayed to Allah the Almighty to safeguard His Majesty and shower him bountiful blessings and grant him good health and long life.

The Al Nasaj Marine Troupe played music as the flags of the participating ships were hoisted in a symbolic gesture that reflects the historic status of the city as an important and well-known maritime hub.

A flotilla comprising more than 50 boats emblazoned with lovely decorations and hoisting the Sultanate flag and His Majesty’s photos put their anchor opposite to the festival’s location.

The festival also involved traditional and heritage competitions, equestrian shows, an exhibition showcasing traditional crafts of ship building and weaving fishing nets.

The festivities will continue today with camel and horse march on the seaside road opposite the historic Suhar Castle.
