State Council panel discusses social security system

MUSCAT: The Social Committee at the State Council at its meeting on Thursday, headed by Dr Hamad bin Suleiman al Salmi, the Head of the Committee, discussed its study on the development of the social security system in the Sultanate.


During the meeting, the committee reviewed the programmes and plans of the Ministry of Social Development to strengthen the social security system.


It also discussed the implementation methodology for the Ministry’s categories, the effectiveness of the current performance through optimal utilization of available resources, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for these programmes, and the basis for the completion of distribution justice, and the level of coordination and integration of roles with other parties.


The discussions focused on the data and statistics related to the current beneficiaries of the social security system in the ministry, their numbers based on the target groups of the ministry’s work, the size of the annual aid, and the geographic distribution of the various governorates’ quotas. The expectations of the growth of the beneficiaries according to their categories and the challenges and obstacles facing the ministry’s work and proposals for solutions was also discussed.


The committee reviewed the performance of the total system of social security in the Sultanate from the point of view of the ministry. It noted the weaknesses, strengths, opportunities, challenges and proposed solutions for development, as well as identified the future vision of the work of the ministry and its view regarding the laws in force and the need to amend or enact new legislation with developing the social security system in the Sultanate.


During its meeting, the committee approved the minutes of its previous meeting and reviewed the implementation of the decisions of its previous meetings.
