MUSCAT: The 5th workshop for the GCC Red Crescent Societies, hosted by the Sultanate, represented by Oman Charitable Organisations (OCO), in collaboration with the GCC Secretariat-General, on Sunday began under the theme “5th Field Visit, Muscat April 2017”. Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development, member of the OCO Board of Directors, pointed out that the workshop provides an opportunity for sharing experiences among those involved in GCC charitable institutions.

While delivering OCO speech, Badr bin Khalil al Hoqani, said that the fifth visit aims at helping participants acquire more skills in humanitarian work in general and relief and voluntary work in particular. It also aims at presenting the Sultanate’s experience in this area during the past two decades.

Badr bin Abdullah al Zubairi delivered a speech of the GCC Secretariat-General during which he said that the workshop will provide the opportunity to view humanitarian work being carried out by the Sultanate, represented by OCO during crises and disasters. Ali bin Ibrahim al Ra’eesi, CEO of OCO, made a presentation on objectives and activities of the organisation inside the Sultanate.

The seminar, which will continue up to 27th April, includes presentations by the National Committee for Civil Defence on its efforts to provide assistance and relief aids to victims. The Directorate-General of Meteorology and some public organisations will also make presentations on their efforts in this regard. — ONA
