By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: April 30 - The price of M95 has been fixed at 199 baisa per litre for the month of May. The committee responsible for fixing fuel prices in the Sultanate, which approved the new rates for oil products on Sunday, fixed the M91 price at 186 baisa and diesel at 204 baisa. According to the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the price of M95 has risen by seven baisa as against the April price. M91 rose by six baisa and diesel by four baisa. The announcement prompted mixed reactions on the social media.

Many users wanted to know why the fuel price had been increased amid reports that the oil prices had dropped below $50 in the past week. “We keep getting contradictory reactions where global oil prices go down and fuel prices are increased here,” Abdul Majid, a taxi operator. In a statement, the ministry said the price of petroleum products is calculated based on the average prices for the month in the world market. The price also takes into account the cost of storage, transport and distribution, and the profit margins of filling stations. The prices for March were: 198 baisa (M95), 186 baisa (M91) and 208 baisa (diesel).
