SALALAH: The Port of Salalah (PoS) took active part in organising a leadership training programme in association with Salalah College of Applied Science (CAS) and Creative People Solutions (CPS) Oman recently. The programme was held in CAS Salalah in which senior staff and faculty members were exhorted to enhance the interpersonal effectiveness of the college leadership and strengthen communication within and across the departments.
A total of 20 senior staff members and department heads took part in the training programme and found it interesting and useful way of improving interpersonal communication.
The response was positive, as most of participants found the training a good way of coming out of their own shells and understanding the human aspects in a better way. Dr Zubair Izaruku Dafalla, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research and Abdul Rauf al Oraimi, Director of Dean’s Office, assured more such programmes in near future.
“The programme was excellent. The activities were very helpful in understanding the concepts of communication and it helped strengthen communication and highlighted areas where we may need to improve. CAS needs more of such programmes to help bridge the communication gaps between the employees,” said Dr Zubair.
The programme was a follow- up of a successful 2016 ‘Leadership Development Pilot Programme’ supported by the Port of Salalah. Mohammed al Mashani, GM Corporate Affairs at Port of Salalah affirmed the port’s commitment to extend all possible support to institutions which ultimately percolates down to students and finally to the community.
“The objective of Port of Salalah is to develop the leadership potential of the community. With our CSR focus on education, the 2017 ‘CSR leadership programme’ is dedicated to develop the leadership skills of the staff and students both at the College of Applied Sciences. PoS is pioneers in the area of using CSR to develop the future leadership of Dhofar and has entrusted CPS and CAS to develop new ways of making wider and deeper impact in the community,” said Al Mashani.
“To achieve CSR aims of the PoS, CPS has combined its expertise in practical and experiential development to design a unique three-month (January-March 2017) strategy to help both staff and students at the college,” he said.
Mike Pola, Middle East Director and Ali Salim Tabook, Oman Director of Creative People Solutions (CPS) Oman, appreciated the PoS and CAS initiative for doing such programmes.
The CSR Leadership Development programme of the PoS will continue with a CPS and CAS research project to cater the youth leadership development needs of the college.
