RO 100m cattle feed unit coming up in Thamrait

By Kaushalendra Singh — SALALAH: MARCH 7 - In major boost to agriculture-based entrepreneurs in Dhofar, Italian company Agrisviluppo in association with a local company in Thamrait has announced the launch of an RO 100-million cattle feed and dairy product project on Tuesday. The announcement was made in presence of Salim bin Aufit al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, Khalid bin Said al Hamr Chairman of Thamrait Animal Company, representatives from Italian companies Facchinetti and Partners and Agrisviluppo.  Members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Salalah chapter and some local businessmen were also present on the occasion.


Al Hamr expressed happiness over the launch of the project which is going to be spread over on an area of 1,000 hectares. “It is going to be a value addition in cattle feed and dairy products sector in the region with modern techniques and 90 per cent Omani funded company. Agrisviluppo would have 10 per cent stake.” “In all likelihood, the company is to lay foundation stone in another six months from now as we are in the process of getting land from the Ministry of Housing. While catering to the needs of local market, our focus would be overseas markets in the region,” said Al Hamr.


Massimo, project manager of the Facchinetti and Partners, spoke about the stages of the project. The project, according to him would be completed in three phases — design, construction and start-up. “It will take five years to reach the final phase. In the beginning we are planning to bring 2,000 Vruzana Italian cows. Besides milk and beef supply, the project would have own bio gas fertiliser system. Equipped with state-of the art production system, the project would be in a position to create many jobs with the beginning and end of each phase,” he said. He also announced some corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to be taken by the company. He assured training and scholarship facilities to young Omanis in the areas of agriculture and veterinary.


Agrisviluppo was established in 2010 by Luigi Masnari, Andrea Coluccini and Onelio Cingolani. Started as a consulting company, the company followed many projects of zootechnics Farm. The company is mainly into farm planning, company relationship for machinery supply and environmental safeguard and development. In the renewable energy sector, the company works on photovoltaic system, design and management of biogas system, relationship with the reality of the purification and desalination of water.
