SALALAH, Oct 11 - A local resident has donated a cardiac catheterisation machine worth RO 200,000 to the Sultan Qaboos Hospital’s Cardiac Centre.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in this connection in the presence of Dr Darwish bin Saif al Maharbi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Health. Dr Darwish hailed the donor’s generosity, which would add value to health care in Dhofar.

The cardiac catheter is an advanced machine used in the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis in which arteries are hardened and narrowed.

The condition silently and slowly blocks arteries, putting blood flow at risk. This could lead to heart attacks, strokes and peripheral vascular disease.

Dr Saeed bin Musallam al Mashani, Head of Medicine Centre and Cardiac Surgery, said the cardiac catheter has great importance in treating heart patients as it plays an important role in saving patients who have angina (chest pain or discomfort caused when the heart muscle doesn’t get enough oxygen-rich blood).
