Registered job seekers drop 28 per cent

MUSCAT: The number of job-seekers registered at the Public Authority for Manpower Register (PAMR) fell by 28 per cent to 100,000 down from 140,000 registered at the end of last year. Of the registered job-seekers 65 per cent were women and 10 per cent were holders of university diploma and above and the rest of them are holders of the general education diploma (GED) and below. The number of registered job-seekers is expected to rise at the end of the year when the new graduates register as job-seekers.
As many as 894 job-seekers of differed educational levels registered at the PAMR in June. Of these, 64 were holders of university degree and above and 830 holders of the GED and below. Earlier,  the ministry of civil service announced 601 job vacancies. All job seekers should update their data at the Public Authority for Manpower Register.
