Suhar Airport will receive more international flights when Qatar Airways will launch its first of the weekly three flights to Doha from August 8.

Qatar Airways had recently announced that it is transferring some of its flights from Dubai International Airport to Suhar, thereby linking the city to 15 destinations worldwide, including eight Asian, five European and one in Africa and Australia.

The Sharjah-based budget carrier, Air Arabia, recently launched its inaugural flight to Suhar Airport, which incidentally was also the first international flight operations from the city.

Air Arabia flight will operate three times a week between Sharjah and Suhar, and is expected to complement Air Arabia’s existing operations in Muscat and Salalah.

Air Arabia operates to over 120 destinations spread across the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and Europe.

The national budget airline, SalamAir, started its direct flights (thrice a week) between Salalah and Suhar from June 28, almost a year after the national airline Oman Air suspended its the flights as it did not achieve targeted results since inauguration.

Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) had earlier told the Observer that the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) continue to market the Suhar airport, including direct international flights

As agreement was signed for an aviation academy in Suhar recently, the government also has plans investments in cargo operations, aircraft maintenance and an aviation academy. The airport is being built within the proximity of the major commercial, industrial and economic centres of Sohar including the Port of Sohar Special Economic Zone.
