MUSCAT: May 30 - The Sri Lankan community living in the Sultanate will extend its helping hand to those affected by floods that have displaced more than half a million people back home. A meeting of important people held at Sri Lankan Embassy on Tuesday decided to raise funds and send it home as soon as possible, Hiruni Rajapakse, Second Secretary and Head of Chancery, said. “We will be collecting emergency funds from our community and sending it to the worst-hit districts,” she said. “All members have come forward to help in whatever little way they can.” Nearly 30,000 Sri Lankans are living in the country. She said the aid will be first sent to the worst-hit districts of Ratnapura, Kalithra, Galle, Hampanthotta, Nuruliya, Kegalle and Matara.  The flooding, caused by monsoon rains in the island nation, has so far claimed 200 lives.
