BAHLA: President of Pisa University of Italy visited Salut Fort Archaeological Site in the Wilayat of Bahla on Monday.

During the visit, the Italian guest was accompanied by Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed al Rowas, Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs, Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Radio and Television (PART), and Prof Alessandra Avanzini, Head of the Italian Archaeological Mission to the Sultanate.

The guest reviewed the Archeological Site of Salut Fort, which is one of the ancient Omani forts and one of the oldest archeological monuments that showcase the deep-rooted Omani culture and its link to the early historic period.

The guest was briefed on the efforts exerted by the Italian Archeological Mission, which is operating since 2004 with subsidy and supervision from the Office of the Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs.

The outcomes of the Mission highlighted the importance of Salut Archeological Site as this site is closely linked to the Old Omani history and is linked to the emergence of Aflaj system “ancient irrigation system or water channels”.

The Mission unearthed a number of prominent landmarks at the site, such as graves on top of Salut mountain and remains of a real settlement.

The Mission affirmed that the settlement site dates back to the early bronze age at the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC.
