Indians living in the Sultanate have called off their Eid and Onam festivities as rains claimed more than 164 lives in Kerala. Various family groups have started mobilising their share of the ‘holy sacrifice’ for the Eid al Adha towards the Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund for the victims.

Some citizens and Omani companies have either contributed money or are in the process of collecting relief material to be sent to Kerala. The collected aid included ready-to-eat food, drinking water, baby food, blankets, soaps, emergency medicines among others.

The budget carrier of India, Air India Express, has waived all charges due to cancellations, re-routing or no-show while cargo companies have offered help to use their channels in facilitating aid.

While the Malayalam Wing of Indian Social Club Muscat collected relief materials. KMCC members offered their one-way salary to CM’s Fund and OICC mobilised aid to a land where more than 150,000 people have been evacuated to thousands of relief camps spread across the state. Aid workers have appealed all to send new clothes, bedsheets and blankets for the flood-hit people who have lost every thing.

A voluntary association of the blood donors from the south Indian state, We Help, has urged all members and people to contribute their share to the rehabilitation of the affected people.

Accordingly they have set collection points across Oman. Volunteers can be contacted on the numbers below: Al Khoudh 96094365; Ruwi 98082962; Maabela 99043296; Hamriya 99512871; Barka 98467067; Ghala 96909459; Ghubra 97312871; Seeb 95521625; Al Hail 99471726; Wadi Kabir 92842010; Darsait 98278483; Muttrah 96277364; and Al Khuwair 92215816.
