Parades, shows mark Armed Forces Day

MUSCAT:  The Sultanate on Sunday observed the 11th of December, the Armed Forces Day. Several events were held to mark the occasion amidst pride over the advanced level the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) has attained which enabled the armed forces to properly undertake their national roles.

In Muscat Governorate, the divisions and brigades of the Royal Army of Oman (RAO) held a celebration at the shooting ranges of the SAF Training Battalion under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hinai, State Advisor. The celebration reflected the state of modernization in terms of training, readiness and armament SAF has reached thanks to the Royal attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.


The chief guest distributed Long and Excellent Service Medal to a number of SAF affiliates in recognition of their sincere efforts in serving and safeguarding the nation.


The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) music band presented music-accompanied military shows. The chief guest and the attendees viewed equestrian shows staged by Equestrian Unit of SAF Armored Brigade followed by a military equipment parade. The event also included a shooting competition, military motorcycles show and skydiving. The event was concluded by the participants chanting the SAF anthem.

Speaking at the occasion, Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hinai, State Advisor, said: “It is great to mark the 11th of December the day which was designated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to be annual day of our courageous armed forces in recognition of its great role in preserving peace and security across the length and breadth of Oman. Marking the Armed Forces Day reminds us of its long glorious history full of triumphs and achievements inspire us patience and strength. The military shows we saw today reflect the level of modernization and the rapid progress witnessed by the Royal Army of Oman in the fields of preparedness, training and equipment which terrify the enemies of the nation and for all than we salute our armed forces and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces”.

The event was attended by the Secretary-General of the Minis-try of Defence, the Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, commanders of SAF divisions, members of the State Council and Maljis Ash’shura, senior officers of SAF, Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the other security forces.


In Salalah, the 11th Infantry Brigade and Firaq Forces of the Royal Army of Oman marked the Armed Forces Day under the auspices of Abdulaziz bin Mohammed al Rowas, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs.


The chief guest distributed Long and Excellent Service Medal to a number of the army affiliates. The event also included a slow-march military parade and military skills display.

In Musandam, the Musandam Command Sector at the Royal Army of Oman (RAO) marked the Armed Forces Day under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed al Harthy, State Advisor. During the ceremony, the chief guest pinned the long service and good conduct medals to a number of personnel at the Sector.

The occasion was attended by some members of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura, Governor of Musandam, judges, Commander of Musandam Command Sector, senior officers at the Sultan’s Armed Forces and other security units, as well as government officials and personnel of RAO Musandam Command Sector.
