Orthodox parish to hold family conference on Sept 29

MUSCAT: The youth wing of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka (MGOME), the Indian Orthodox parish in Ruwi, completes 40 years this month. To commemorate the occasion, the youth movement has come out with a number of programmes.


As part of the celebrations, the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Youth Movement (MGOCYM) will hold its annual function on September 29, Friday, followed by a family conference for the parish members.


Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius, Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese, will inaugurate the conference and deliver the key note address.


Fr Jacob Mathew, Vicar/President of MGOME, unveiled the new logo of MGOCYM to mark of the beginning of the celebrations on September 8 at St Thomas parish, Ruwi.


MGOCYM General convener Benson Skaria, has designed the logo.


Among those present on the occasion included OCYM Unit Secretary Aju Thomas, Joint Secretary Nibu Varghese and Treasurer Tijo Thomas.


Formed in 1977, the youth wing is the most active spiritual organisation of the parish, having undertaken a number of social service and voluntary works in Muscat.


A number of programmes and schemes will be launched during the year-long celebrations.


Indra Mani Pandey, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate, launched the year-long 45th anniversary celebrations of the parish on August 18.


Four Indian Orthodox parishes in


the Sultanate are located in Muscat, Ghala, Suhar and Salalah and come under Ahmedabad Dicoese headed by HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios.
