OOC signs MoU with PDO for sports marketing

By Sports Reporter — MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), under its ‘Sport for Development’ project signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO) at the OOC headquarters on Tuesday. The MoU was signed by Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, OOC Chairman, and Engineer Abdul Ameer bin Abdul Hussain al Ajmi, Executive Director for External Affairs at PDO. Under the deal, PDO will lend a marketing official to OOC to strengthen its marketing efforts. PDO’s Hamoud al Touqi will work with OOC for one-year renewable term to boost the marketing aspects of OOC.


“The Oman Olympic Committee is looking to boost its brand value and with the help of PDO marketing support we hope to make some significant development in this regard. The expertise of PDO will be tapped by the OOC to strengthen our marketing initiatives,” Khalid al Zubair said.


Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, OOC General Secretary, was also present.


PDO official Abdul Ameer said youth is a prime focus of the company’s CSR initiatives.


“Youth is our main focus for CSR activities. And sports is closely linked to youth. Through this tie-up, we aim to share the knowledge and experience with OOC in the marketing aspects.”


He said the deal will benefit both the sectors.


“It is a significant partnership between sports and private sector that will benefit both the sectors. Through sports, PDO aims to involve with the society, especially youth and this tie-up will enable us to contribute to the development of sports in the country,” Abdul Ameer said.


The OOC chairman said the step will help the sports associations and committees garner more support and sponsorships from the private sector.


“The step will contribute to set up mechanism’s within the Marketing Committee to win support and sponsorship from the private sector to the sports associations and committees. It will also contribute to promote OOC’s marketing activities and highlighting its sports events.”


He said OOC is looking forward to sign another MoU with the private sector to promote and develop sports and Olympic movement in the Sultanate. “We are looking forward to signing yet another MoU with the private sector companies and establishments in various fields to promote and develop sports and Olympic movement in the Sultanate and enable out national teams to be recognised on the podiums during the forthcoming sports championships and Games.”
