MUSCAT: Omantel recently launched this year annual Imagine Cup competition in Oman in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation.

The competition brings together students from across the Sultanate and aims to address global issues through innovative projects. Six teams have been nominated for this year’s competition finals.

The teams are currently receiving training on planning skills, business development, marketing, technology and presentation skills through four-week training workshops held at Knowledge Oasis in Muscat starting from March 25 to April 19.

The training workshops conduct by experts from the Information Technology Authority (ITA), Microsoft, and Omantel, on a variety of subjects including ‘Building Mobile Apps for iOS and Android’, and ‘Building business models and marketing plans of project ideas’.

Laila al Wohaibi, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Omantel, stated: “Our aim is to inspire students from all academic backgrounds to collaborate and develop innovative programmes and apps to impact Oman’s community, as well as the rest of the world. We support the youth in the Sultanate to develop their skills in the field of IT, and are dedicated to promoting and empowering the future generation, and helping them succeed. This initiative is in line with Omantel’s 3.0 strategy that supports”.

Laila added: “Omantel and Micosoft organised an introductory tour in universities to enhance awareness on the Imagine Cup competition, encouraging students to take part. About 42 projects were delivered, out of which six teams were selected to compete in the national round of this year’s Imagine Cup; one team out the six teams will be selected to compete in the Middle East and Africa finals competition will be held later this year.”

Omantel and Microsoft are partnering to organise the local edition of the Imagine Cup.
