The Sultanate on Tuesday supported the agreement reached by 124 countries on the reform of United Nations (UN).

Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, and head of Omani delegation participating at the UN General Assembly, said the reform of UN had been an essential requirement for many years.

The initiative for reforming the UN was proposed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and fostered by the United States, which is currently holding a high-level meeting in this regard.

US President Donald Trump, whose debut speech at the UN, revolved around issues facing the UN. Alawi said in a statement to Oman TV: “Trump highlighted the issue of reform as part of his perspective and of the US as well.”
