Muscat, July 17 - Omani Student Consultative Council at the United Kingdom (UK) has launched the third edition of its annual award, ‘Oman Ambassadors’.

It was launched under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education.

Al Ghaith bin Abdullah al Harthy, Head of Omani Student Consultative Council at the UK, said the award is an annual competition launched by the council in cooperation with the Cultural Attaché in London in 2015.

It targets Omani students studying abroad. While the first award coincided with the 45th Glorious National Day in Swansea, the second was launched in Birmingham in 2016.

The award will be presented in two categories: student associations and individual.

It is aimed at discovering young Omanis’ skills in leadership, communication and team management, besides honouring their individual achievements in projects, scientific research, artist/literary talent and voluntary initiative.

Fay al Amri, Chairwoman of Leeds Association, said the competition helps in motivating and improving the students’ quality of work.

“The award encouraged me to turn my idea of an alarm device in the field of medicine into reality. It has been a platform for my success,” said Mahmoud al Shandodi, last year’s winner.

Applications for the competition will be issued from July 24. The last date of submission is October 31.
