By Samuel Kutty — MUSCAT: Dec. 12: Several international flights have either been cancelled, delayed or diverted due to severe winds blowing across the south Indian city of Chennai. Oman Air said on Monday that Flight WY253 MCT-MAA on December 12 to Chennai was cancelled due to bad weather. “We apologise for the inconvenience caused”, the airline tweeted on its official twitter account. According to information, twenty flights have been diverted, nine were delayed and five were cancelled. Sri Lankan Airlines said all its Chennai-bound flights were cancelled till Tuesday morning after authorities issued a red alert due to severe cyclonic storm “Vardah” which made a landfall in Tamil Nadu. Some airlines said they were offering change fee for those who wish to reschedule or edit their itinerary. Many incoming flights were diverted to nearby cities like Bengaluru or Coimbatore, Chennai Airport Director Deepak Shastri was quoted as saying. “The runway is open and is not flooded,” he added.
