By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: April 3 - There is no permission yet to operate to new destinations in India such as Amritsar, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, according to a top official of Oman Air. Abdulrahman al Busaidy, Deputy CEO and COO, Oman Air, said: “We want to raise additional capacity and a few new destinations. It depends on the Indian authorities because we were not given new routes in the recent bilateral talks.” On the third daily flight to Mumbai, he said, Mumbai is heavily travelled and two flights a day are not enough. “We asked for a third frequency and we were granted. But the problem is we don’t have slots there.”

As a result, the airline will use one wide-bodied and one-narrow bodied aircraft to Mumbai shortly. He said on average there is a review every two years and India with a huge middle class population is a big market for us. On plans for India, François Bouteiller, CEO, SalamAir, had earlier told the Observer that it depends on the talks for bilateral rights between the two countries, but stressed that India is very much there on our future plans. As per an agreement announced last year, the number of weekly seats to India increased to 27,405 for both sides, compared with 21,145 seats a week earlier, an increase of 6,258 seats per week.
