Muscat: The National Heart Centre of the Royal Hospital (RH) launched a first-of-its-kind service in the Sultanate in the field of heart diseases. The service targets patients with Arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) and sudden cardiac arrest.

The therapeutic approach involves a general anaesthetic where a small scar is created on the lower side of the thoracic cage and a special wire is inserted into the pericardial space to reach the area that causes irregular or rapid heartbeats in the outside wall of the heart.

The procedure is observed via a 3D device.

Notably, this catheter approach contributes significantly in reducing the possibility of Sudden death and has few side effects. The patient stay in the hospital is short and can perform normal life activities better than before.
