New bus timings, ticket discounts for Ramadhan

Mwasalat has announced changes in bus timings on all Muscat routes and special ticket prices for most of the long-distance routes, including Dubai during Ramadhan.


For Muscat city routes, services will begin from 6:15 am and continue till 12 am. Frequencies for morning services will be every 30 minutes and


from 5 pm to 12 am it will be 15 to 20 minutes.


There will be changes to the working hours at the company’s Athaiba office — between 8 am and 3 pm in the evening and from 7:30 pm to 1:30 pm throughout the holy month. Working hours in the offices at various governorates will be unchanged.


To encourage everyone, especially citizens, to use public transport and facilitate transportation during Ramadhan, Mwasalat will offer a discount of up to 20 per cent on tickets for long-distance routes.


There will be no changes in bus times to various governorates, including Dubai, except on the Muscat-Salalah route where the starting time has been moved from 7 pm to 8 pm.


Mwasalat at a press conference recently unveiled the public transport strategy (2015-2025), which will include purchase of new buses, new routes within Muscat and inter-city services. It also mentioned about the expansions of domestic services in various governorates of the Sultanate. There will be also focus on contract services, advertising, new bus stations, technology updates and dedicated bus routes to reduce traffic times and increase the quality of services.


Mawasalat urges all citizens, especially citizens, to use public transport because of its economic, social and environmental importance to the individual and society.


The economic importance lies in raising the income level, creating job opportunities and reducing the total costs of operating in the transport sector. Public transport will also help reduce injuries and deaths resulting from traffic accidents.
