MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Directorate-General of the Primary Health Care, organised on Tuesday a workshop to review the National Multi-sectorial Policy for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

The workshop was held at Al Maha International Hotel under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Talib al Hinai, MoH’s Under-Secretary for Planning Affairs. The two-day workshop aims at developing and reviewing the National Multi-sectorial Policy for the Prevention and Control of NCDs in order to improve quality of life for the people in Oman.

The policy is based on the strategic goals outlined in the Health Vision 2050 as well as other international and regional strategies and landmark initiatives related to NCDs. It provides a platform for all national stakeholders and partners to convert their commitments into action, highlight their contribution, and identify their roles and responsibilities towards achieving the goals and of prevention and control of NCDs.

Within the workshop, Dr Saeed bin Harib al Lamki, Director-General of PHC, emphasised the risk of NCDs and the importance of preventing the key behavioural risk factors namely unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and tobacco use.

The World Health Organization expert in the field of NCDs stated the opinion of the organisation in the plan and proposed keys to improve it that would eventually make it a role model in the NCDs Strategic Planning among countries of the region.
