Minister holds talks with UNHCR chief

MUSCAT: Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Minister of Interior and Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Legal Affairs, on Sunday separately received Prince Zeid bin Raad al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the framework of his current visit to the Sultanate. Prince Zeid hailed the wisdom of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and his positive role to solve the international issues, as well as His Majesty’s humanitarian role in releasing detainees in some conflict zones, in addition to the Sultanate’s role in protecting and enhancing human rights.


He also expressed his delight to visit the Sultanate, which is considered the first visit since becoming the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.


Further, he praised the achievements in the Sultanate under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, particularly in human rights field. Prince Zeid pointed out that establishing Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) is a prove to this interest and a remarkable development in enhancing and protecting the human rights. — ONA
