Marhaba has 500 taxis on board: MOTC

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) said in a statement today that nearly 500 taxis, including those operating at the Port Sultan Qaboos, have joined Marhaba, which is nearly 90 per cent of the target.


The number is expected increase during the coming months after major operators at hotels (three to five stars) in Muscat agreed to join the company.


The taxi operators are keen to offer improved services for the benefit of residents and tourists. The Ministry expressed its satisfaction with the steps taken in regulating the taxi sector, to develop this sector and maximize the contribution of tourism sector to the economy.


The services of Marhaba services include operations from hotels (three star and above), on-demand services, port services, VIP service, services for the disabled and the monthly contract service


The company has a special reservation system at hotels and through the use of an electronic application, website or the call center.


MOTC told the Mwasalat to need for urgency in activating the taxi license granted to it.


MOTC is currently working with other stakeholders to develop regulations orange taxi, including have meters as in a number of GCC countries and many countries.
