By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: March 8 - As the members of the second cohort of the National CEO Program under the initiative of the Diwan of Royal Court in cooperation with Sharaqa, leave to Switzerland for their fifth module, the clock is ticking for the applicants for the third cohort as the deadline is on March 13. While it sees a healthy response from male applicants, the officials would like to see more participation from women. “Women are half the talent pool. We also want younger people applying because younger people are digital natives. They have relationship with technology, which is important in the new economy. We want people from every sector and every kind of organisation because only in that diversity are we going to be seeing the foundation of this new economy. It is all about talent and it is about talent everywhere,” explained Richard Kemp, Director of the National CEO Program.

The new economy is all about working in scales and working in speed and so the NCP 3 is being called as the game changers. “We want people who are going to change an industry, their company and the sector. We are asking can we speed that change up? So we can use the rest of the time to really develop people’s capability such as giving on the job training. If you understand this, how far can we take you over the next eight months? So if we can do the transformation in the first month, then use the next eight months to really deepen that and create a community of people who are thinking about their capabilities, their impact in a way that is a very different.”

So where does the transformation come from?

It comes from people with world class expertise says Dr Kemp. “Everything we do come from research, and is based on best practice in the world. What we do is take that research and put it in a nice tool kit. We will teach how to use the tool kit and would want to see them use it and the more you interact you gain more from it.”

The National CEO Program wants to prepare individuals not only to do business in Oman but globally.

“We want world class Omani CEOs and that means Omani CEOs who can create businesses of the future. We have many interesting projects that are coming up soon from graduates of the program. Understanding Oman’s economy and the opportunities available in the country, let us also think about the opportunities Omani CEOs can make and then think of ways to reach out to a bigger marketplace.”

The training is to look at the world differently. Most people think inclusively. Oman is very different and open says the director so here are the skills that will enhance it further to the level of world economy.
