Tehran:  An explosion at a coal mine in northern Iran has left at least 80 workers trapped, local news agency Fars reported on Wednesday. Since the blast in the province of Golestan, authorities have managed to rescue 36 workers, who have been taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Azarshahr. All emergency services in the province had been mobilised to help save the trapped miners, the report said. The workers are trapped at a depth of 1,800 metres while the search teams have only reached a depth of about 800 metres. It is not clear how long the air will last where the workers are trapped. The cause of the explosion was not yet known. — dpa
