The Court of First Instance in Suhar recently issued a judgement against the employer of a labour recruitment office and fined him with an amount worth RO1,891.

The count pointed out that the owner of a recruitment office was at fault as he failed to follow the terms and conditions with regard to the death of a domestic worker, who had died after she was hired by a client of that company.

The recruitment office had maintained that it was not responsible for the death of the domestic worker and refused to return RO1,300 that that the client had paid him.

Following a complaint, the Directorate General for Consumer Protection took necessary action against the complaint and the matter was referred to the competent authorities. The competent court charged the defendant for non-compliance as he had refused to return the money. It was proved that the maid was suffering from an illness even before she was recruited by the client of the labour office.
