MUSCAT: Indian School Muscat celebrated India’s 68th Republic Day on Thursday with great pride and patriotic fervour at the school premises. The President, Indian School Muscat Managing Committee, N Omanakuttan, and SMC members, the Officiating Principal, Deep Wilson, vice-principals, teachers, parents and students joined in to celebrate the Republic Day. Deep Wilson welcomed the gathering. Omanakuttan read excerpts from the President of India’s address to the nation on the eve of the 68th Republic Day.

The school echoed the spirit of unity as children wore tricoloured clothes to mark the occasion. An Odissi dance based on Rabindra Sangeet choreographed by Guru Deepak Roy was performed by the students which left the audience spellbound. It was also an apt occasion to honour the Best Teacher Awardees, — Shaheen Kasmani, Asst. Vice-Principal, Pre-Primary Section; Apolonia Joseph, HoD, Science, Primary Section; Jacob Zacharias, Vice-Principal, Middle Section and Johns Abraham, Physical Education Teacher — for their commendable, selfless dedication and devotion to the cause of education. Omanakuttan, and the academic sub-committee chairperson, Gurbinder Singh Punn felicitated the Best Teacher Awardees with shawls and letters of appreciation.

ISM students, who had won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at the CBSE National Athletic Meet, were also honoured by the President in a befitting manner. The programme came to a close with the Officiating Principal Deep Wilson proposing the vote of thanks.
