International workshop on food, brain health in Nov

MUSCAT: The Food Science & Nutrition Department at the College of Agricultural & Marine Sciences at SQU, in association with the Ageing & Dementia Research Group (ADRG) at SQU, will organise the 5th International Workshop on Food and Brain Health on November 5-6 at the conference room of the College.


The workshop aims to welcome participants from different walks of life and create an awareness on the impact of food, nutrition on brain health, through whole life.


Discussions will cover a range of topics from the definition, causes and treatment for neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive impairment to research findings on dietary practices and their unique role on health.


Around 10 international speakers from USA, Qatar and India will share their experiences along with speakers from Oman and international students who will present their work.


Prof Walid Qoronfleh from World Innovation Submit for Health (WISH) Qatar will be talking about the response to the Burden and Impact of Dementia through Policy and Innovation and the CEO of WISH Qatar Sultana Afdhal will be attending this event for the possible collaboration with SQU.


Prof Richard Hartman from Loma Linda university, California, USA will discuss the benefits of fruits on brain injury and function.


Dr Qazi Hamid, CSO from Rx biosciences, USA will be discussing the possible development of therapeutic antibodies for neurodegenerative diseases.


Dr Thirunavukkarasu Velusamy from Bharathiyar university, India will be talking about psychiatric disorders and nutrition link. Dr Subramaniam Sadhasivam from Bharathiyar university, India will be talking about Dietary phenols as effective antioxidant therapeutics in neurodegeneration.


Dr Ghazi Daradkeh from Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar will be talking about the benefit of nutrition for traumatic brain injury patients.


Prof Samir Al Adawi from Behavioural Medicine department, College of Medicine, SQU will be talking about Gluttony and its discontent in Oman: what the data tell us? Dr Hamed Al Senawi from SQUH will talk about the Psychological impact of caring for Dementia Patients and Dr Kabali Subramanian from Arab Open University, Oman is going to discuss about the Innovations in Healthcare and business prospectives.


There are some Phd students from India and SQU are going to share their research work in this area.


The event was supported by Food and Brain Research Foundation, India, which is a non-profit organisation to support and create awareness in this field which was founded by Dr. Mohamed Essa, Chair of the event. For registration.
