By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: Feb. 11  - Muscat Festival concluded yesterday with a large number of visitors attending the venues over the last two days of the weekend. Official statistics about the visitors will be released this week, according to sources.

There were more events marked for the final weekend, including programmes catering to the expatriate communities from Asia and Africa. The traders at the festival were also overwhelmed with the crowd turnout, but they argued that it didn’t make up for the poor response during the previous weekend due to weather.

Even the Super Car Show at Oman Automobile Association (OAA) attracted a large number of car enthusiasts from even the interiors. “This event was special and I think any car buffs in Muscat would have made it to come here visit.”

“Cultural programmes were impressive and it has been the backbone of this year’s festival. The foreign visitors too were overwhelmed and many said they were surprised by the fact that a country with such a small population has so much to offer.

“I have always read that this country gives attention to present rich past with a sense of pride. I have been touring many countries in Asia and the Middle East, this show stands out from the rest,” said B Pringle, a visitor from the UK.

Our children had good opportunities to present their skills in dance and music. Performing on the stages in front of large audience from different nationalities is one of its kinds, said expatriate parents from India at the venue.

Shoppers at the venue were, however, disappointed that the traders did not bring down the prices despite an increase in volumes on the last few days.

“We have our operating costs and wages to be met from the festival. It was not possible to bring down costs during these tough days,” said a trader of toys and accessories.
