Healthy food... honest choice campaign to run until Aug 31

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources is implementing foods safety campaign under the slogan “Healthy food... honest choice” in various governorates from August 6 to August 31.


The campaign aims to highlight the role of the ministry in food inspection and


control in shops, factories and restaurants by raising awareness among all segments of society about the importance of sound and healthy handling of food and ensuring cleanliness.


The campaign also aims to raise awareness of the importance of food safety during processing, preparation and consumption, introduce legislation and laws related to the field of food safety and its adherence.


The campaign includes various programmes and activities, the most important of which are seminars, workshops and lectures on food safety and exhibitions to raise awareness of the importance of following healthy habits and introduce visitors to the efforts of the ministry in food safety.


Furthermore, it includes field visits to various food establishments and shopping centres to educate the workers on the need to follow health requirements and take the necessary action on the erring establishments.

The campaign also includes educating housewives and introduce them to the steps to be followed to identify products, food description data and their consumption before expiry.


Moreover, the campaign also aims to introduce the efforts exerted by the food and water labs centre and the sub-laboratories in the governorates and their responsibility for the continuous monitoring of food and water to ensure their safety and suitability for human consumption by conducting lab analysis on selected food and water samples.


The campaign also includes visits to slaughterhouses to raise awareness about the prevention of diseases transmitted from animals to humans due to lack of poor hygienic practices.
