A groundbreaking ceremony for the new RO 350,000-autism centre in Suhar was held on Wednesday in a ceremony presided over by Shaikh Muhanna bin Saif al Lamki, Governor of North Al Batinah.

The centre will be constructed on a 1,685-sq metre plot and is expected to be completed within 15 months.

Funded by Orpic, Sohar Aluminium and Vale, the autism centre will provide medical and psychiatric care as well as education for children with autism. The project is considered to be the first of its kind in the wilayats, said Fahd bin Salim al Adi, Executive Manager of Josour Foundation, developer of the project. The centre will cater to children with autism from North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah. The centre will be under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Development. The initiative to establish the autism centre comes as part of the social responsibility of Josour Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims at developing the community through implementing sustainable social projects.
